St. Lucie Regional History Center Unveils Exhibit on Florida during WWII

June 5, 2019

Volunteers and staff from the St. Lucie County Regional History Center will unveil a new temporary exhibit focusing on Florida’s role in World War II on Thursday, June 6 – the anniversary of D Day, when U.S. forces took the beaches of Normandy.

The three-month exhibit features educational panels explaining the Sunshine State’s involvement in World War II, as well as original artifacts from the early 1940s that have been donated to the museum over the years. Additionally, the center houses a permanent exhibit area dedicated to the Navy’s Underwater Demolition Teams (UDT) and Frogmen that were stationed in St. Lucie County during the early 1940s. This elite group later became the known as the Navy SEALs.

The St. Lucie County Regional History Center is located at 414 Seaway Drive on South Hutchinson Island in Fort Pierce. The Center’s hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors (55+), and $3 for children (4-17). Children (under 4 years old) are admitted free. Joint tickets to the Regional History Center and St. Lucie County Aquarium are also available.

The St. Lucie County Regional History Center operates in partnership with St. Lucie County and volunteers from the St. Lucie Historical Society. The Center can be reached at 772-462-1795.
